ElephantDrive Nation,

Over this weekend, ElephantDrive experienced a period of intermittent service delivery problems as a result of failures from our primary Domain Name system (DNS) provider, Network Solutions.  The period ranged from approximately 7:55 am – 11:55 am PDT, and we received several reports from users describing inability to access the ElephantDrive web site and/or services.

During the problem window, all ElephantDrive services and storage solutions remained fully operational, but requests from affected users were not routed properly to our systems.  The root cause of the routing failures can be traced to steps taken by Network Solutions in effort to mitigate a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attack on their DNS servers.  The attack, which began earlier in the week, was widely covered and affected thousands of other sites, such as LinkedIn, Yelp, Fidelity, and others.

See these links for additional details:

We are still working with Network Solutions to get more details regarding the steps they took in reaction to the attack, but they have confirmed that their efforts were the cause of the access problems.  Please note that this attack was waged against Network Solutions, not ElephantDrive.  No data secured by ElephantDrive was compromised in any way and no systems, servers, or infrastructure under ElephantDrive’s control was affected other than the intermittent lack of access.

Lastly, we are taking steps to insulate the ElephantDrive systems from any similar issues in the future.

We thank you for your patience while we investigated the problems and for your on-going support.
